Hamburg/Berlin (Jul 28th) - Czech Airlines (CSA) plans to add a daily
connection from the northern German port city Hamburg (HAM) to the Swedish town
of Gothenburg (GOT) to its schedule. The unusual route for the flag carrier of
the Czech Republic comes as an extension to the already existing connection
between Hamburg and the Czech capital city Prague (PRG) that has been running
for years with ATR 42 regional airliners or Boeing 737-500 jets - especially in
wintertime.

There is no direct
air connection between Gothenburg and Hamburg, despite the demand both on the
Swedish and German markets. Thus, based on detailed business analysis, we have
decided to add two products to the existing Prague – Hamburg connection: regular
scheduled flights between Gothenburg and Hamburg and a connection between
Prague and Gothenburg,” stated Josef Sinčák, Deputy Chairman of the Czech
Airlines Board of Directors, responsible for business and marketing in a
company press release.
CSA points out, that passenger
from Prague to Sweden do not have to leave the plane during the stopover in
Hamburg, whilst other passengers are leaving and boarding the flight. The
national airline of the Czech Republic is one of the oldest airlines still in
service today. The airline schedules two flights a day on the route, a morning
and an evening connection.
Despite a state loan to avoid
bankruptcy the airline has been struggling to fight low cost competitors and is
currently restructuring its network towards the East and establishing itself in
niche markets, such as the connection to Gothenburg.
