As the regional newspaper “Lübecker
Nachrichten” reported the airport could not give the carrier any guaranties
that the field would be open for air traffic in August. Wages for the employees
of the bankrupt airport are said to be safe until July, only.
Ryanair has offered refunds for tickets already sold. Another options for passengers would be Ryanair flights from Bremen (BRE), where the Irish airline has a base. In the meantime the employees and the bankruptcy supervisor are struggeling to find a new investor. Since neither the state of Schleswig-Holstein nor local authorities want to bail the airport out, it seems highly uncertain that LBC still has a perspective. Besides Ryanair the low cost carrier Wizz Air, the charter airline Tailwind and other ad-hoc charter carriers use the airport on the western German Baltic coast approximately 80 km east of Hamburg.
