Lufthansa Emergency Landing in Geneva

Berlin - A Lufthansa regional jet has performed an emergency landing at Geneva (GVA) on Saturday morning after smoke and smell emerged in the cockpit. Canadair CRJ-900 under the flight number LH2382 was travelling from Munich (MUC) when the flight deck crew noticed a smell that was "electrical and burning", as a spokeswomen for the airline described to AviationUpdate in an Email.

The flight got priority landing rights at Geneva, halting several other flights including a scheduled Trans-Atlantic service from Newark. One EasyJet flight from the Corsican capital Ajaccio needed to be diverted to Lyon, France as the runway needed to be closed down at GVA. Fire and Rescue teams were scrambled to the runway. After rolling out, the airliner was evacuated standing on the active. However, none of the 38 passengers or crew were reported injured. Some media reports suggest that individual passengers seeked out medical advise at the airport.

Sources identify the jet involved as Lufthansa Cityine's (Lufthansa Regional) D-ACNM. It is a Canadair Regional Jet CRJ-900 MSN 15253 and was previously owned by Eurowings until Feb 2017 when it came to Lufthansa. Coming into service in 2010 the aircraft has seen eight years of short-haul service and is based in Munich. The cause of the incident is yet unknown, while aircraft remains in Geneva. A return flight to Munich LH2383 was cancelled and passengers rebooked to the midday flight LH2385 leaving Geneva at 13:05.
